Helene's Annulet

Here is a drawing I did long ago. It is dried daffodils. You know for a long time I loved doing dried leaves and dried flowers. I guess now I really want to do fresh flowers but memories of dried leaves and dried flowers are always dancing in my head.

The Victorian Woman

The Victorian Woman hangs over my dear friend's grand piano. It is the only one I get to see often. Aren't these sleeves magnificent? What a blouse and what a tiny waist this bride had.

The Independent Woman

I have been fixing my photos and now trying to figure out how to change the photos I have in this series. I was thrilled when i realized how to do this but now I need to exchange the photos I have used.
The Independent Woman was a blouse I found in and antique shop and again the minute I handled this blouse I knew she was to be Independent.

The Bride

The Bride' image size is 40" x 60", I did this in colored pencils. It was so large that I used an easel so it would be upright and I could use my whole arm to draw. I used a lot of cross hatching. I found this wedding dress at an old antique shop on Chestnut St. I was very interested in the negative shapes in this drawing and I have always wanted to do the full length of this dress and maybe I will. I think I would use oil painting to do it in. The pearl necklace was made by my Mother. The old hanger was also found in an antique shop. If you click on the image it will enlarge.

The Trapped Woman

The Trapped Woman was a really tough blouse to draw. Many women are trapped in situations they cannot get out of. In the 70's,. 80's around the time I did this blouse, it was not so easy for women. It is a little better now but I still see a lot of suffering. My future husband found the rusted barbed wire in the woods. The dried amaryllis blossoms I had been saving for the right drawing. Do you see the dried blood on this blouse? It is because they were so tight that the bones in the inside of the blouse would cut into the skin of the wearer.

The Proud Woman

The Proud Woman is the second Victorian blouse for the battered women's series. This blouse was very fragile but one of my favorite drawings. At one time this must of been a very gorgeous dress. The next blouse I will show you is the inside of this blouse.

The Empty Woman

The Empty Woman was done in colored pencils. This was the first of my women series. The size is about 28 x 30. It seemed when I found these clothes( you will see them all) that the minute I touched these blouses the name for them just came to me. I loved colored pencils and I loved doing these blouses. All the women series drawings are in private collections.

Hela's Hanging

This was the first of my battered women's series. This represent's women and suicide. This drawing won a Best in Show award. When the gallery called me to tell me I was in the show I was very happy and then she tell's me I won the award I, couldn't stop crying. It was very emotional and at the same time a very happy moment.

All My Life is a Circle

This Prismacolor Pencil drawing is one the first of my woman series. Some people think snakes are bad but they are actually a lucky omen. I am thinking of doing this drawing larger and in oil. It should be interesting don't you think?

The Broken Heart

The Broken Heart is a large drawing about 24"x30". The story about this drawing is all about John's heart attack soon after we were married. It represents our sadness at his being so sick. We made it and have been married 23 years.

A little California Doodle

Every year when I would go to California to visit my sons I would do quite a lot drawing. I love just starting with a circle and just move along. It was fun and also knowing when to stop. Enjoy

Claudette's Onions

This drawing has a little of graphite and colored pencils. I loved working with colored pencils. I could draw and use color too. Doing this blog and using my old art work is great for me. Like visiting old friends.
I am feeling better and enjoyed teaching this past week.

Old Age and Dried Sunflower

This drawing was about my Mother and her aging process. She had always been independent but then when she lost her sight it took the life right out of her. The image is not my Mom but an old photo I found. The sunflower was one of mine. You can imagine my surprise when it won an National Award. I then hung it in a show in Ogunquit, Maine and it sold, I was heartbroken as I never expected it to sell. A short story about this drawing.

Seeds for Thought

The inside of squash have always excited me. I could draw seeds all the time, they are so alive.
I am enjoying going back in time and seeing again what I drew and what I was thinking.

Here it is Tuesday and I am going to teach a morning class. Teaching motivates me, I learn form my artists (student) I like the sound of artists compared to students. This drawing is pencil and colored pencils. Enjoy.

Leaves, around 1970's

Saturday 9/11/2010 A sad day. The sad memories come back so easily. I hope we never will have another such disaster.
John's sons are here until the 14th and my son Paul will be here on the 22nd, can't wait.
My second drawing is just leaves. I wish I had photos of all the drawings I have done. Can't get them back now it is too late. My advice to new artist is to photograph every thing you do.

Hello Everyone, I have been sick and just getting better. I will be starting my classes next week. On Tuesday the 14th I will be teaching drawing and watercolor and on Thursday the 16th I am teaching Oils and some Acrylics and on Saturday morning the 18th will be drawing and watercolor. Classes run 12 weeks and the hours are 10am to noon.
Now the other thing I want to talk about is I have not been doing any art at all. So I will start way at the beginning of my art career. Today will be drawing. I love drawing and especially fruit and vegetable and roots. I can't remember what this was and also the paper is white but I had no decent camera. this is from the 70's. I have a few more I will show you tomorrow.

From the garden

This salad is all from our garden. So delicious, I hate to think that come fall no more garden. We have enjoyed all our vegetables so much and now looking forward to our tomatoes. Lots of green ones just waiting to turn red. Yummy

I am Back

Seashells and Small Stones, Graphite
First I have to apologize for not posting anything for quite sometime. I got a new computer and had lots of problems with some of my programs. I am now up and running and very happy. My show at the gallery went very well with good sales. I am now getting ready for the Instructor's Show at EW Poore Art Center on Front St in Manchester, NH. I love teaching at Poore's, everyone so loving and talented. It is a joy to go in for my classes. The graphite drawing is being framed as we speak and now I will be working on a colored pencil drawing. I will also have some new paintings. I teach with the most wonderful bunch of teachers, it is the best place for would be artists to come and learn and share the joy of art.

Hi Everybody

Hi Everybody, I know I said I would be posting all my artwork that is in my Featured Artist show BUT I have a new computer. I love it but I am really confused about down loading my photos and uploading them to my blog. My Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 is not compatible with Windows 7. I ordered a Photoshop Elelments 8 but it has not come in yet. I expect it will arrive about Wed the ninth of June. I am really disappointed but that's life and I need to just relax as the upcoming week is going to be a very busy one. I will post my photos as soon as I can. Thank you all for your patience.

Hanging my Art Show

Tomorrow I hang my artwork for my featured artist show. I have thirty paintings. I hope they look good. I will take pictures of the show after it is hung and put them on the blog. My partner Cheryl is also hanging her paintings. In our gallery we have featured artists every month. I am a 2/3 wall space and Cheryl has a 1/3 wall space so we really look good together, she is a fabulous painter. It really is stressful though I started these paintings in Feb/ March.
I will keep you posted.

Magenta Clematis, Oil, 5" x 5"

Magenta Clematis is part of my show. I was worried I would not have enough work but I think I do. I have 2 more oils for Kimberly to frame and three more Acrylics that are almost done.
I had a wonderful class today. Everyone interested in something different and everyone excited about it all. Most of all me, I love teaching this kind of class.

I am almost ready for my feature artist show at the East Colony Fine Art Gallery with Cheryl Vratsenes. The opening will be June 11, 2010, 5 to 8 pm. You are all invited. The show will be up June 1st through June 26th.

Monhegan Lupines, Acrylic, 8" x 10" sold

One year when I plein air painted on Monhegan Island, Maine, it just happened to be a huge Lupine explosion. It was just beautiful. Lupines were everywhere. This painting brought that whole week back to me.
