Second day of painting, Zion National Park

A new painting

On Friday I told John that I had a painting in me that was screaming to get out. I started this painting and worked on it for four hours. Today I worked on it another four hours. I am so happy with it. I am using Acrylics, I love the feel of acrylics and the colors. Starting this painting with orange has been a lot of fun. The Image is 36" x 24".

We had a wonderful time at our Art Weekend. We talked and talked. We ate and ate, it was just wonderful and a great time was had by all. I am in the mood again to paint. Have a couple of pictures of Zion National Park and raring to go.

My Artist Friends

Aren't we gorgeous? Next weekend is our yearly get together. We paint, we talk, we eat wonderful food made by one of the artist, a fabulous Italian woman who cooks like a dream. We take long walks and watch some good movies. Four days of laughter and happiness and love and respect. xx

Capital Reef and Escalante,Utah

It's been awhile since I have written in my blog. Have lots to say. Sunday we all went to my Aunt's 100th birthday party. It was a grand affair and my aunt as bright and beautiful as any 50 year old. What a wonderful family. I am so proud of them all.
As for art work, I have sold two of my newest acrylic paintings. Both Utah scenes, Capital Reef, Utah and Escalante, Utah. I am thrilled, my first time using acrylics. I have had these paintings photographed so I will include them with this blog. Sorry I could not use the photographs from my photographer. These are from the gallery. I have so much to do and have so much I want to paint. My next painting is a scene from Zion National Park.

Waterlily

Luke's Dragon

A few years ago I had an art show of just my Watercolor Batik. Luke's Dragon was a big hit and I sold it right away. I asked Luke what he thought of it and did he like it. He said Memere that is not a dragon that is my toy. I couldn't get him to change his mind. To this day it is his toy.
I like doing the watercolor batik. Usually I keep them very light and happy. It is funny because sometimes I go a whole year and not do one but then all of a sudden I start and will do twenty. It all depends on the mood I am in.

Tulips, Watercolor Batik

These tulips were done in watercolor after I waxed the line drawing. Where you see the white is where the wax was. I use a tool called a Jhanting that you can buy from Dick Blick, I use bee's wax, also can be found at Blick's. Once I finish painting I put the painting on paper towels and iron the wax off. Once that is done I sometimes ink to embellish the design. This is great way to relax and they make great gifts. If anyone wants more information they can email me at studiojeanne@gmail.com.

The Proud Woman

Today was a really difficult day. I had to vote. NH has its primary today and it was very, very busy around here. I really had a hard time because two of the nominees I liked very much. I walked in to the booth and made my choice. I hope I did the right thing.
The Proud Woman won two national awards. I love this drawing.

Knotted Shawl

Knotted Shawl is one of the last colored pencils I did. I have the shawl and it is gorgeous.
Classes start this week and that always gets me excited. I will be teaching three mornings a week. Tuesday starts it all. A new year and I hope a happy one for all.

The Elegant Woman

I did a series on women and used old antique clothes that I found in antique shops. I named them all after different types of women. The Elegant Woman was once a very expensive dress for someone young and beautiful and wealthy. The Bride was one of this series. I loved using colored pencils. It is a very meditating type of work. You become so involved you forget the time and the day.

The Bride

The Bride is the largest colored pencil drawing I ever did. The image is 40" x 55". It took quite awhile to draw. I had it on an easel and did a lot of cross hatching, I worked at it as I would a painting. It was quite the job. I won a National Award for this drawing.
It's mighty cold out, everyone stay warm.

Paintbrushes

This painting was done many many years ago. The brushes were hanging in my basement. One day I set up my easel next to the furnace and started painting. My kids came down to watch and my Mom did too. It was a fun painting to do and I sold it at a local art show. Memories, good memories.

A Cold Gray Day, Colorado

We had more snow last night, I think about 8 inches and they are predicting more snow tonight into tomorrow. We were going out with our best buddies but with the snow and the fact that I have a very bad cold and am coughing all the time, we decided to stay home and cuddle in front of the TV.
I hope this painting looks decent on the blog. Paul my" motorcycle buddy" son saw it at the gallery and bought it. I had done the painting from a scene in Granby, Co. I painted this using only three colors Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Yellow Light and Ultramarine Blue and of course white. Try it it is a fun thing to do.

Close to me Sunflower, Acrylic

I enjoyed doing this little sunflower for my show. I just enjoy doing acrylics in case anyone hasn't noticed. I have been thinking and thinking about doing something very creative for the Currier show. It is a big show and a juried show. I have not submitted for a very long time. My mind is working overtime on this situation. Should I ? Well of course I should, just get going. Don't think, DO

Remembering Georgia

Remembering Georgia is a colored pencil and oil pastel painting or if some people prefer a drawing. Mark and Peggy own this painting and they have it in their Oregon home. I always loved Georgia O'Keefe's paintings and she was my idol for years. At this moment I am loving Jamie Wyeth paintings. He is an edgy painter, you really have to see his work in life not from a picture to really see the beauty of his art. His paintings glow. This past summer I went to one of his shows at the Ogunquit Museum of Art on Shore Rd in Ogunquit, Maine. I was blown away by his painting of a huge ram, "Islander". His silhouette is looking over the ocean and some of the island. It is a gorgeous painting, I am at awe of this painting. I read he applied his paint right from the tube to get this wonderful animal's fur. The texture and color of this ram is stunning. Look up the painting "Islander" on Google and let me know what you think.

The Dream

One night I dreamed of this painting. Exactly as you see it. I woke up and started right in on it. The painting went very fast, I used oil sticks and was able to finish it in three days. This painting belongs to my son Paul, the fine furniture maker and motorcyclist. He always liked my more abstract paintings. This painting is perfect for him.
I love dreaming about paintings and then getting up so energized I can't stop painting. It happened a lot when I was doing the show Interpretations with my other son Mark. That was an exciting time for us, we love showing together.

Squash Landscape

This was the first of my squash landscapes. It was the first time I used oil sticks. I also used oil pastel over the dried oil sticks and I used colored pencils for the details. I sold this painting in Ogunquit Art Association Gallery in Ogunquit, Maine but not before it won an award at the Currier Museum of Art in the New Hampshire Art Association show 1993. I have loved doing these Squash paintings. I have enjoyed going back in memory thinking of these paintings and wonderful shows I have been in.

This Squash painting is very large, something like 38 x 50", again done with the oil sticks.

Inner Landscape

This squash is called Inner Landscape and is also very large. This painting was done with Oil Sticks, you know great big oil crayons. This painting won the Ezikeal Straw Award at the New Hampshire Art Association show at The Currier Museum of Art in 1995. I loved getting awards.

Turban Squash Lanscape

Here is one of the first squash I painted and this one I did with Oil Sticks. Oil Sticks are a large round stick that are Oil paint and some wax and a medium to hold it all together. You use oil sticks as you would oils and a brush, but this is just so juicy and fun to use. It is as if you were a kid again and using crayons, large crayons.
This Painting won the Biennial Award at the New Hampshire Art Institute in 1993.

My Love Affair with Squash

This painting is the inside of a Hubbard Squash. I love squash, I love to eat it and I love to paint it. I've done a whole series of different squash and I will put them on my blog in the next few days. This one is an oil painting and I found painting it very intriguing. The color was so wonderful and while painting it I just saw so many different things and I am sure when you look at it, you will also see many different images. I hope you enjoy looking at it.

Tonight begins our three day Holiday Open House at the gallery East Colony Fine Art. The whole building called Langer Place will be alive with music, art and good food. Lots to see and lots to buy, paintings, stained glass, drawings, photography and more. I hope we have a great time and a lot of great people.
